Wednesday, September 22nd, 2010 | Posted in : |
As you may be aware, Kirklees Council is committed to addressing inequalities in its communities to give everyone the opportunity to maximise their potential to achieve and enjoy a good quality of life. To support this aim, the “Reducing Inequalities (RI) Grants Scheme” is being launched again, as part of the Council’s commitment to reducing inequalities and creating an atmosphere of fairness and opportunity for all. It aims to encourage voluntary and community organisations to develop and enhance their role within the community by developing new groups and allowing existing groups to do more. Funding will be given to projects that help to reduce inequalities in any of the following areas:
Community Cohesion
• Sense of shared belonging
Young People
• Education attainment - Foundation stage
• Education attainment - KS4
• Not in Education and Employment or Training
• Teenage Pregnancy
Health
• Smoking
• Alcohol
• Childhood obesity
The scheme will be managed by the funding team in Kirklees Council’s Communities and Leisure Services and will run alongside existing grant schemes. The maximum grant available per organisation is normally £8K but two organisations may apply to run a joint programme for a maximum grant of £16K.
The closing date for applications is 12th November 2010 but in the meantime, two information sessions will be held for voluntary organisations as follows:

• Huddersfield Town Hall - Thursday 30th September – Council Chamber
At each venue, the first presentation briefing will run from 2pm to 3pm and will be repeated from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. These events are free however it is essential to book in advance. Book online at:
