WMDC has secured funding from the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Learning and Skills Council (LSC) aimed at preventing 14 to 16 year olds becoming NEET (Not in Education, Employment or Training). Working within the boundaries of the Wakefield District the Fund amounts in total to £130,178 and is available between September 2009 and March 31st 2011. Acting as fund manager WMDC will lead a partnership to commission a number of activities targeting 14 to 16 year olds who are at risk of becoming NEET on leaving school.
WMDC wishes to commission a number of new services between September 2009 and March 2011 which deliver innovative and effective approaches to engaging and captivating 14 to 16 year olds who are identified as being at particular risk of not progressing into education, employment or training post 16. Currently there is a range of alternative provision being delivered through schools for this age group including, Key Stage 4 School Engagement, off site learning, vocational tasters and early college transfer arrangements. Such initiatives are having a positive impact upon the levels of preparation for post 16 progression and many young people are benefiting from them. There are, however, still some young people who are not being reached by these programmes and who remain at high risk of becoming NEET post 16.
Organisations, Partnerships and Consortia are invited to submit quotations to deliver Services to the young people within this specific target group by Learning Community area.
Service Specifications and full details of the bidding process will be available from 17th July 2009 and can be downloaded from;
