Inclusion on Kirklees Councils Approved List of Sure Start Childrens Centre Activity Providers

A Childrens Centre is defined in legislation as a place or group of places where services for pregnant families or families with a child aged under 5 are delivered in an integrated manner. Services delivered are required to provide: 

* Support to families to have healthy lifestyles, for example access to Health Visitors, support with breastfeeding, healthy eating options and exercise;

* Support to families to keep their children safe; for example advice on parenting, parenting courses and first aid courses

* Support to families to enjoy and achieve educationally; for example delivering activities to help parents to support their childs learning and development and adult learning and training opportunities

* Support to families to engage positively and contribute to centre decision making processes

* Support to families to develop skills for the future, to access training and employment and to achieve economic stability; for example help find work or training opportunities and benefit advice.

Across Kirklees there are 32 Childrens Centres with strong partnerships, including those with Health, the Voluntary Sector, Job Centre Plus and Schools who support the delivery of a range of services and activities to meet these requirements in one place.

They regularly work with a range of partners to deliver specific activities however occasionally it is necessary to procure activities through a 3rd party. Historically such activities have included: First aid, paediatric first aid, healthy cook and eat sessions, home safety, outdoor activities.

Access to the Approved List will open for 12 months on 6th April 2011. Providers can submit completed questionnaires at any time during this 12 month period, questionnaires and further information can be found on SCMS Alito.
