Spen Valley Peer Health Education Project-Kirklees Council
Tuesday, March 30th, 2010 | Posted in : Young Peoples Services, |
Kirklees Council's Strategic Housing Service is inviting interested organisations to submit a quotation for the development and delivery of a peer health education programme to run in the Spen Valley locality of Kirklees. The 2009 Joint Strategic Needs Assessment for Kirklees highlighted increasing and concerning numbers of young people in the Spen Valley locality (electoral wards of Heckmondwike, Liversedge & Gomersal, and Cleckheaton in Kirklees), involved in behaviours adverse to their health and well being, in particular alcohol abuse, smoking, illegal drug use and under age and unprotected sex.
The aim of this project is to reduce the numbers of young people (aged between 8 and 19), across the locality involved in these behaviours (or prevent those at risk of becoming involved, doing so), and as a result improve young people's overall health emotional well being and relationships both at school and home.
There will be a related positive impact of reducing levels of reported anti-social behaviour involving young people gathering , and indulging in these behaviours at a number of known "hotspots" across the locality.
