Teenage Conception Communications Strategy

The rates of Teenage Pregnancy in Sheffield are too high and we are determined to do something about it. The City Council and it's partners are investing in a new strategy over the next 2 years to bring the rate of teenage pregnancies down by 2011.

We want to make sure that our children and young people have access to comprehensive, accurate, accessible information, and advice about relationships, sex and sexual health. This includes where to access contraceptive advice and services, and how to avoid unplanned pregnancies.

We also want to promote openness in talking about sex and sexual health. This includes consistent, accurate and comprehensive messages to audiences, including children and young people, parents, carers, teachers, health workers, social workers, and partner agencies.

Communications will be a key part of our new approach. We are looking to appoint an organisation with the relevant skill and track record of social marketing, to deliver a range of campaigns that support our strategic objectives. We are expanding youth and health service delivery to deliver prevention programmes to over 500 young people over the next 18 months, and need a provider who can enhance this direct work with young people through delivery of top quality communications work.
